How exciting! I just had to handover my plot, and was sad because I loved having it. It was my haven during lockdowns and kept getting me outside listening to the birds. I was looking to see if I could figure out which location your plot is in - I hope you have a water supply.

I did well with beetroot, chard and rocket- I think you should be able to plant all of those. Lettuce need a lot of watering over the summer, so may depend on how far you have to go to do it whether it’s worth it. The rocket was less needy!

Potatoes are good as they’re so low maintenance- keep your eye out for the potato seed swap, and have you found the seed library? Loads of free local harvested seeds which means they’re more likely to thrive in the soil. Have fun with it!!

Thank you for commenting Jo! We are in Frome, Somerset on a gorgeous spot near Cley Hill. We are just in the middle of sorting out our water supply, and managed to salvage some pipework from a neighbouring plot that was giving theirs away.

Rocket it a good tip, I love it in a salad! My husband is less keen on potatoes but I think we will plant a few anyway.

Sorry that you have lost your plot - we had another one previously that we were sad to move when we left London so I know exactly how you feel.

We’ve met 😀, (you kindly lent me a book) so I was trying to figure out which allotment location you were at, or even if you might have had mine- but you’re on a different site!

Now I sound like a stalker 🤣

Sow some beetroot (if you like it) - we always sow too much but our freezer is full of beetroot apple and ginger soup so maybe it’s never too much.

We looked after a freind's patch in those allotments for a bit. Filled and dragged water butts up from the river to water the tomatoes. A terrible idea in many ways, but mostly now we know the state of that river...

yes water supply sounds a nightmare! We need to sort a water butt from our shed roof asap.

Aw, good luck Grace! We had an allotment when my third child was one (the girls were aged three and seven.) You can still plant lots of thing! Get some potatoes in the ground for starters. Peas might be worth a point too, and broad beans.
