I am ‘liking’ the emotion & energy & urgency that I feel from this piece obviously not the fact that Sunak has trashed our commitments appallingly. The worry is these actions will appeal to certain groups who will welcome them. I just hope it’s not a majority.

My sense is that the train has already left the station on Net Zero, there is really very little he can do to alter our political direction of travel that drastically, hence the somewhat nonsense 'cancelling' of policies which never existed!

Yes I think it’s creating a political differentiation for the Conservative party. You’d think this stuff could / should be cross party.... 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think it is cross party! Hence why he's getting so much pushback from his own backbenchers. He's just appealing to a very small (but vocal) cabal.

Well said Grace! What an absolute buffoon he is. I too am just as angry and outraged at how they manipulate country politics for their own benefit without a genuine care for the future and well being of our people and our planet. More people need to say it like it is. I will use your article as a reference when spreading the word

Ahh Jess. Yes I used to feel very angry, then I felt jaded, but now I'm back to full-blown contempt for these awful politicians.

Thank you for this Grace. Passionate and clear. I agree with all you are saying, including about the Labour Party's own watered down policies on environmental issues. I really worry that we might be reaching a point of no return, and that 2023 has been a tipping point, in terms of climate breakdown. Only urgent, radical change can stop that process and I don't yet see the political will for that so far.

Thanks Dave, I try not to think about climate change in terms of tipping points, largely as it's too scary and makes me feel depressed. There is good news if we look for it, but we need to be clearly calling out the bullshit for what it is!

Thanks Grace for this great article! I tend to err on the side caution in politics these days... the left do what they do well .... Rant! And the right sit back and enjoy the ride... I’m not as convinced as you that they won’t get back in again... I hate to say it but the middle England brigade and boundary changes in the north are going to make it more complex in some seats than it was before. I’m a member of the Green Party and I have to say I’m concerned for the political life of our nation as the public are easily persuaded on simple sound bites and ultimately most folks don’t think beyond their own small world and what concerns them most. I wish we had a different political system and I suspect it will only come in the Tory’s get back in... if labour do get in we will have to stick to first past the post for decades to come. Your’s pessimistically, Rob.
